Synopsis
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu tells the story of Yotarou, an ex-yakuza seeking a new path in rakugo, a traditional Japanese art form.
Inspired by the performances of the renowned Yakumo Yuurakutei, Yotarou becomes his apprentice, embarking on a journey of learning and self-discovery.
He encounters Konatsu, the daughter of a deceased rakugo master, Sukeroku, who holds a deep connection to the art and a complicated history with Yakumo.
The anime explores the complex relationships between these characters, the contrasting styles of rakugo they represent, and the dedication required to preserve this unique storytelling tradition, weaving between the present and memories of the past.
