Synopsis
Ayumu Tanaka, a former kendo prodigy, joins his high school's unofficial Shogi Club because he's fallen for the club's president, Urushi Yaotome.
He vows not to confess his feelings until he can defeat her in shogi, a task proving incredibly difficult as Urushi is much more skilled and experienced.
The anime follows Ayumu's efforts to improve at shogi and get closer to Urushi, who is constantly flustered by his direct compliments and unwavering determination.
Each shogi match becomes a new opportunity for Ayumu to learn more about Urushi and inch closer to his goal of confessing, while Urushi struggles to maintain her composure in the face of his affections.
