Synopsis

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei centers around Nozomu Itoshiki, a profoundly pessimistic high school teacher who finds despair in everything.

The anime follows Nozomu's daily life and interactions with his class, which is filled with a collection of incredibly quirky and unusual female students.

Each episode explores different aspects of Japanese culture and society through a comedic and satirical lens, highlighting the students' unique eccentricities and Nozomu's constant struggle with despair.

It's a slice-of-life comedy focusing on the absurd and often dark humor arising from Nozomu's interactions with his students and his generally pessimistic outlook on life.
